EVERYTHING AROUND YOU Songwriters: Kwanza Jones (ASCAP) / Keith Rouster (BMI) Ah, ooo, ooo What if I try Can I go back to The time in my life When I first met you Will you be there Or will it appear That you are gone, long gone Away In dreams we can find A perfect place for us But change comes with time It’s not like a fairy tale, oh well Will you be there Or will it appear That you are gone, gone, long gone Away And it seems that Everything around is trying to tell me you’re not happy And everything around is trying to tell you I’m not happy And everything around is trying to tell us we ain’t happy And everything around is trying to tell us we ain’t happy Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey You’re not happy Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey I’m not happy Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey Aah, ah check it, aah, aah Aah, aah, ah check aah My heart beats oh so steadily Your melody captures me, we Are fighters in a ring and we know It’s time to let go So will you be there Or will it appear That you are gone, long gone, away And it seems that Everything around is trying to tell me you’re not happy And everything around is trying to tell you I’m not happy And everything around is trying to tell us we ain’t happy And everything around is trying to tell us we ain’t happy Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey You’re not happy Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey I’m not happy Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey You’re not happy Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey I’m not happy Yeah, everything around is trying to tell me you’re not happy And everything around is trying to tell you I’m not happy And everything around is trying to tell us we ain’t happy And everything around is trying to tell us we ain’t happy Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey You’re not happy Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey I’m not happy Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey You’re not happy Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey

about

“Nobody likes to talk about what happens when love has fizzled and the difficult decisions you have to make. I wrote this song to help get through times like that.” With anguish, bold honesty and a steady building “in your face” delivery, this song about unhappiness is not a pessimist’s moody anthem. Rather, it is Kwanza’s perspective on how to “check your situation, realize what’s not working and do something about it.”

Kwanza says, “This song was inspired by a girl I know who had issues with this guy. They were going out and everything was fine, but then it all changed. He was distant, always on his phone and texting all the time. She asked me what should she do, and I asked her, if she was really happy? She said, ‘No.’ So I said, ‘You can change yourself but you can’t change him. Either accept your situation or cut the rope and move on.‘” Be sure to check out the video at www.kwanzajones.com, it’s as beautiful as the song. Also, check out the follow-up: Not a Breakup Song
